  • About

The Berrien County Historical Association has striven to collect, preserve, and present the history of Berrien County since its inception in 1967. For more than fifty years, the BCHA has stayed true to this mission through programs, exhibits, tours, and more. As we move into the next phase of our story, we strive to expand how we tell yours.

Visitors to the History Center at the Courthouse Square have the chance to step back in time through our 1830s log cabin and our recreated historic forge to see the world through the eyes of our early settlers, imagine themselves as lawyers, judges, and jurors hearing cases from over 100 years ago, and stand in the place where lawmen and criminals crossed paths.

Through comprehensive exhibits, engaging programs, and long-form trips, we have been able to share our vision with residents of Berrien County and beyond. Our annual signature event has regaled us with stories of the past through eyes of famous people both local and national. Trips to areas such as the East Coast, New Orleans, and South Dakota gave the BCHA the chance to connect local history on a much larger scale. Local high school students bring their mock trials to our courthouse for an authentic experience not found elsewhere. And our exhibits have given voices to the past, be it a dough boy from World War 1 or a group of traders coming westward.

The BCHA continues to evolve to meet the needs of our members, partners, and communities. We invite you to join us on this journey forward into the past.
